FROM THE GAP

Kanopi Gap Founding Principal Chip Crawford, FASLA, PLA, has been named a recipient of the Landscape Architecture Foundation Legacy Award.

Some contributions are measured in projects. Others are measured in what they make possible for the people and profession that follow.

The LAF Legacy Award recognizes past members of the Landscape Architecture Foundation Board of Directors whose extraordinary service and contributions have helped shape and sustain the organization. Created in 2023, the award honors a lineage of leaders who have given their time, perspective, and energy to advancing LAF and the landscape architecture profession.

For Chip, that commitment to service has always been part of the work.

Over more than 45 years in practice, he has led landscape architecture, planning, and urban design work in 24 countries. Along the way, he has invested just as deeply in the institutions, communities, and people that move the profession forward. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects, a Past President of the Landscape Architecture Foundation, former Chair of the ULI St. Louis District Council, and a Kansas State University Alumni Fellow.

That same belief in the responsibility of landscape architecture shapes his work today as a Founding Principal of Kanopi Gap: that our profession has a role beyond the boundaries of any single project. It can bring people together, strengthen communities, work with natural systems, and create conditions that endure.

The Legacy Award recognizes service given over time. We see its impact every day—in the practice Chip helped build, the people he continues to mentor, and his enduring belief in what landscape architecture can contribute.
