FROM THE GAP

Great public spaces do more than connect one place to another. They create opportunities to move differently, manage water more thoughtfully, strengthen ecological systems, and bring people together along the way.

On August 27, Kanopi Gap Principal Neil Eisenberger helped lead a Project Tour + CEU of the newly completed Brickline Greenway Market Street Connector, alongside Priyasha Shrestha of LJC Design + Engineering and Mark Vogl of Great Rivers Greenway. Organized by the St. Louis Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects, the event brought together designers, public agencies, civic leaders, and industry peers to experience the project firsthand and talk through the ideas, systems, and decisions that shaped it.

We were honored to welcome Mayor Cara Spencer, along with representatives from the Mayor’s Office, Trailnet, MoDOT, Bartlett Tree Experts, and other leaders from across the landscape architecture and public-realm community. Their presence made the evening feel like more than a project tour—it became a broader conversation about mobility, green infrastructure, public space, and the future of St. Louis.

Along the route, Neil, Priyasha, and Mark shared how the greenway brings together landscape architecture, active transportation, stormwater strategy, and urban design within a working piece of city infrastructure. The discussion focused not only on how the project performs, but on how it feels at the human scale—and how thoughtful public-realm investment can strengthen connections between people and place.
